Implement Joint Training Courses & Summer School on Maker Education in Initial Teacher Education

Work Package 3

Lead: Universidade do Minho (UMinho)
Duration: Month 13 – Month 33

This work package aims to operationalise maker education in initial teacher training through joint courses and a summer school. It also supports mobility and internationalisation as integral parts of teacher education.

Key objectives:

  • Design and implement pilot blended learning courses and a summer school on maker education;

  • Strengthen international collaboration and the European dimension in teacher training;

  • Promote various modes of student-teacher mobility (physical, virtual, and blended);

  • Ensure recognition and quality assurance of learning outcomes gained through mobility.

Key tasks include:

T3.1 Plan joint training courses for initial teacher education:
Organise logistics, coordination, and content for three joint blended courses hosted by TLU, PHW, UMinho, AUTH. Each 4-week course involves ~80 students (20 from each partner), with ECTS accreditation. Each university will host one of the pilots.

T3.2 Practical arrangements for student mobility:
Ensure smooth and equitable mobility for student-teachers across partner universities. This includes agreements on credit transfer, travel and accommodation logistics, and support services. Formats include:

  • Physical mobility for pilot courses and summer school
  • Virtual mobility for joint activities
  • Blended mobility combining both approaches

T3.3 Online classes & tools for distance learning:
Create an inclusive online learning environment for student-teachers. Select an LMS platform, configure tools for synchronous/asynchronous engagement, and integrate maker activities like simulations, 3D modelling, or virtual labs. Adapt WP2-developed content for remote use.

T3.4 Training actions: Pilot courses and summer school:
Conduct the pilot courses and summer school. Each includes 3 weeks of remote learning and 1 week of on-site, hands-on activities in local schools or maker spaces. Includes orientation, instructor support, evaluation methods, and feedback collection from students and teachers.
